Rancho Peñasquitos is a master-planned community located in North County San Diego that plays host to more than 52,000 residents. It is located just south of Rancho Bernardo, west of Interstate 15, and north of Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve. The community lays claim to an area of approximately 10,000 acres including Black Mountain Regional Park, with just over half of the land being used for housing.

Rancho Peñasquitos is mostly a residential community, with the remaining area being made up of parks and open space. Since the area is primarily focused on preserving and enhancing the natural scenery, there is relatively little commercial development there. With its canyons, hillsides, and ridges, Rancho Peñasquitos offers a distinctive landscape that is accentuated by the abundance of outdoor space in the area.

The most recognizable sight in the area is Black Mountain, which rises more than 1,500 feet over the surroundings. Rancho Peñasquitos is part of the Poway Unified School District, the third-largest school district in the county. This district provides services to Sabre Springs and other nearby towns in addition to the city of Poway. Along with pre-K and adult education at the adult school, the school offers instruction in elementary, middle, and high school.

Fiesta De Las Peñasquitos is the annual street fair and community parade in Rancho Peñasquitos. This is the event of the year for residents and the surrounding area as every local community group gets together to participate in the community parade, which starts off the entire event. The street fair includes live entertainment on three stages, from music to dancing and other local talents. There’s a beer garden, a variety of vendors, and several zones for specific entertainment. Zones include a family fun zone, an adventure zone, a carnival zone, and a community zone.
